Teach her to use her foot, or show her how you can attach a length of piping 
to the wrench to get a better mechanical advantage.  I find that 1 metre 
usually undoes most things (unfortunately it also undid the top of a bolt 
from the bolt itself once, but hey).

OTOH, it's cool that a) she tried to help out on something like that without 
even being asked, and b) that she had a rough idea what needed doing.  My 
other half wouldn't have a clue, and even if you paid her wouldn't go 
anywhere near something loud and dirty like a mower.

1. You sharpened the blade? I've never seen anybody do that, ever.

2. The mower isn't electric?

    yep .... have a grinder. I usually sharpen every other year. that's the 
mower for the close in stuff. the tractor has 5 blades I take them to a shop 
for those.

And the correct technic to check that the wrench actually turns to a 
right direction. Some ASCII-art, seen from top, "b" is bolt, g is

If you'll just press the wrench down directly, it won't only try to 
unscrew the bolt, but also turn itself (and the bolt) downwards looked

It is less painfull when you cut your own toes with a sharpened blade >:-)

With electric mowers, the 1st thing you're likely to cut is the power cord 
but before you have to slaughter flower beds  with it and mess it between 
trees and shrubs  :-)
