It is me, or does it seem that as communication gets faster and more 
reliable due to computers that rebates take longer and longer.

I just filled out a rebate that stated that checks would be mailed out 
16 weeks after the end of the rebate period.

What happened to 6-8 weeks......

I figured it was just the banks wanting that extra time for the interest 
to pay for the rebate.

I mailed in for a rebate on a DVD a few years ago, and was told that 
they did not ship to post office boxes.  This of course was not 
mentioned anywhere in the rebate promotional material.  I could, 
however, get the rebate if I returned the proper paperwork no later than 
two days before I got the notification.

Did you dot your I's, and cross your T's? Did you happen to read the 
clause that says you must enclose a few wing scales from some rare 
species of moth along with the rebate form. Were you able to jump 
through the flaming ring without so much as a singed eyebrow? If so, and 
provided you used your best penmanship, you might receive the rebate.

One rebate was straight forward - UPC, rebate form, and receipt - 6-8 
week turn around.

The other one.... had the flaming ring.
Register online - all I's and T's must be crossed on the first try or 
rebate invalid.
Fill out form that asked what my great great great grandchild's name is 
going to be.
Provide email address (temporary email would be disqualified and 
invalidate rebate)
Write online info on back of envelope.
Get your rebate in 16 weeks.

In some ways not too bad, but a lot of little things to make sure is right.



I really love the ones that send you a check that must be cashed in 30 
days - but you get it only 5 days before the 30 days are up.

I've had some rebates that were easy as pie and they were willing to 
work with me to get it all straight.

Had a rebate on a refrigerator that got misplaced in a move.
Called them up (it was after the mail by date) and said the rebate got lost.
The said mail it in anyway - I got the $$.

I just stuck my vehicle duty tax disc in to the DVLA to claim back the  
(TAX-10%/6)*3 months you have to pay in advance; please wait 3- 6 weeks  
before trying to find out where your money is. So not too bad.

that's 3-6 weeks.... not 6-18

I once had a rebate take 6 months - 26 weeks.
I almost forgot about it only to have the check come in and I have to 
look up what it was for.

I guess a lot of rebate houses make their money on pure interest.

Sure a lousy $10 doesn't make too much, but if you get 1000 rebates and 
hold the cash for each one for 3 months you can garner a bit of interest 
off of it.
