GAH! o_O
OK, so I'm actually nowhere near the end. I wonder just how hard this
game is going to get... heh. The underground temple was pretty damn
hard. [Night vision is great, but only for a few seconds...]

I was beginning to get that impression, yes.
[Like that time where you're supposed to use the hang glider. I found
that every time I touch that thing, I get shot to ribbons. Much better
to creep through the jungle...]

Ah good to see realism alive and well in video games; 14 direct hits from
a RL and *then* it gets damaged. Does it have force fields or something?

Heh, that particular chopper may well have a force field, well, no it
didn't, but it was a silly ending to that level really. They could have cut
to a cutscene where the chopper does get damaged and starts to fall, and
then you see Crow (still alive, and possibly injured), being picked up by
his mercs in a boat and then make their escape. End of level.

Even better is the dude standing in the doorway of the helicopter who
manages to stay alive while 5 rockets hit him in the face.

Definitely a force field then, presumably a flicker one tuned to the
weapon's fire rate to allow the bullets to pass through ;-)
Thinking about it though if you did project a force field around a
helicoptor (or aeroplane for that matter) would it still fly? I presume if
an object hits it then all energy is absorbed or redirected so you
wouldn't rattle around like a ice-cube in a glass?

OK, I just spent, like, 20 minutes slowly battling my way through the
next section. Finally I make it to the place where I'm supposed to go,
and I get killed.
Guess where the last checkpoint is?
No, really, guess.
Yeah, that's right. The entire 20-minute advanture is now precisely as
if it never happened at all. I've got to do the entire thing all over again.
I am *not* happy. In fact, screw it, I'm not playing any more Farcry
tonight. It took me *ages* to get through that lot alive, and I am *not*
going through the whole damn thing again. Not today.

20 minutes?! It took me around 1 to 2 hours... But I survived! ;)
Hit the key left of '1' to bring up the console. Type: save_game
Do this when you know it's going to get hairy-scary!

But don't give up Andrew. Apart from Crysis, it's one of the best games
ever! (And yes, FarCry2 is coming out fairly soon too). I think after the
river level, it's all land, up hills and down dales, and oooh boy, you'll
like that! :)
Damn, I want to play the whole thing myself again now! (But if I do that,
I won't get any work done). :o/

One of the first things I did after installing it was to bind save_game
to one of the function keys :)

I'm not even going to install it. Last time I just installed it to see what
the graphics looked like on my new system, and then I ended up playing it
through to the end again!
