OK, well what you mean is "if you don't want to be my girlfriend then i
don't want to be friends with you". You're never going to find a girlfriend
if you act like that. Just make friends with her and get to know her. You
never know what will come of it. Maybe after 6 months she will like you so
much she'll want to move back to be near you. Or you'll go to a party at
one of her places and meet this great girl who is one of her best friends.
Why waste all those opportunities simply because she won't be your
girlfriend right now?

Sound a lot like networking for a job ;-)

I've never looked at it as networking for a girl, but it makes sense.

No, that's not what I mean.

To quote that character I really hate, "do I look bothered?"

This is also a very valid and rather worrying question...

He's absolutely right, you know. People sometimes don't realize that
"not dying young" implies "getting old." In any long-lasting
relationship, the day will come when some parts are wrinkled and some
parts sag and some parts just don't work anymore--but if that
relationship is based on deep, secure friendship, those things don't matter.

Of course not, so don't say it.

And remember: here on p.o-t you can depend on it that there will always
be one that will deliberately misunderstand you either for humorous
effect or because they want to point out that you should be a bit more
careful with what you say. Any could-be girlfriend might interpreted it
the same way.
