What good ways to render grasstype surfaces are there?
The only remotely succesfull attempt iv'e used was an image_map but i didn't
like the result very much.
Are there any good macros or something for this out there somewhere?
I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

There are quite a few grass macros about. There's one on the object
collection at
http://lib.povray.org/searchcollection/index2.php?objectName=grass&version=1.0&contributorTag=Chambers.

I use grass a lot in my images, and the best grass I've found are Gilles Tran's
makegrass macro (of course) at
http://www.oyonale.com/modeles.php?lang=en&page=2 and Rune's grass texture at
http://runevision.com/3d/include/
The macro is great for creating realistic-looking grass, but it does take a
while to figure out all the parameters, and it takes a bit of memory. Rune's
texture is nice for distances and save a lot of memory.
Good luck!
