Hi again,
is it possible to make or fake some heat flickering in pov? I think in real
life the flickering happens because of different IORs of the 'surfaces'
between air at different temperatures - that is probably not possible in
pov, is it?
So, how to fake this? I tried already a normal on an object with filter 1,
but nothing appeared ...
Thanks,
Marc-Hendrik

No, it isn't. And although it isn't impossible to do, getting it to work
in POV would probably be difficult.

Did you remember to give the object an ior in the interior statement?
You are on the right track, some people have simulated the "mirage"
effect with multiple layers of objects with different ior's, a single
object with a normal should be sufficient for many situations.

No, I didn't. now I get good effects, but ist is quite difficult to tweak
them to look convincing or at least somewhat good. Lot's of try and error.
I use now a disc for this purpose, because my previous cone reflected parts
of the scene at the edges - thta's the effect you get when you look over a
hot street, isn't it? But the disc works well, even if it is not as flexible
and it has to be oriented to the camera. Doesn't matter since I don't plan
to make a animation anyway.

Hmm...if the heat is in you whole scene file (not just one place), you could
put a normal in the camera.
