I'm trying to make a good wood-grained surface as a floor to pose models on.
Are there any tutorials on how to do this? I've tried to use the woods in
woods.inc and textures.inc but I can never get the grains to run
parallel...they just show up as rings.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The predefined textures in woods.inc and textures.inc use the procedural
pattern -wood- which consists of concentric cylinders centred on the z-axis.
This means that if you want to see parallel veins you have to rotate it
properly. Try rotating the texture by 90 degrees in one direction (try for
example rotate 90*x). If it doesn't work, change the direction.

I always use 80 degrees or so to offset the lines at an angle, one or more
directions from straight.
If you want individual boards, or the look of them, you'll need to use a
texture_map which doesn't blend. Look up texture_map in the Help and you
should be able to figure that out if you don't know already.
A bit of randomness of orientation of the texture will further break up the
wood grains.

jonathan and bob,
ah hah! thats it! thanks! i was messing with a wood pattern
too and couldn't figure it out. i just tried 90 degree rotations
until it came out right, but i didn't understand why it worked
until now.
a couple months ago i posted asking for a texture for some-
thing and somebody said, "make your own. its the only way
to get what you want." well i tried that, and although i'm a
newbie, i sense that developing good textures is an advanced
skill.
