Hi, Zac. You may receive replies from people who are familiar with
Moray if you post Moray-related messages in the moray.win group.

For our information - what version of Moray are you using, and do you
have Alexander Enzmann's Moray animation plug-in?

(follow-ups to moray.win)

It is possible to do animation from within Moray; newer versions (3.2 and onward
if I'm not mistaken) support a keyframe animation plugin by Alexander Enzmann.
You probably have to download it from the Moray site.
For animation from within POV-Ray itself, I suggest you see the help sections
about animation options (command-line / INI) and the clock keyword; scenes files
in /scenes/animate provide examples of how it works in practice.

As for heightfields, see the links section at www.povray.org for pointers to
some heightfield generation/manipulation tools (these help you create a bitmap
suitable for using with the height_field object).
The HF object can be created in Moray from the "create" tab and then the HF
bitmap file can be selected from the "modify" tab.
See also the POV help sections concerning heightfields, they should give a
reasonably complete overview of its workings.

Do you have the files already in sequence and you want to animate them? Or
you are going to be producing these files?

I am totally confused by the help files.

Great things start with great confusions :O
Try to work with Moray and Alexander's animation plugin and try to formulate
your questions into specific areas.

Check www.povray.org/links
There are some height field tools there.
Basically a height field is a bitmap that can be looked at as a terrain or a
mapping where shades in grey or different colors are mapped into different
heights. In other words, for starters, ANY picture is a height field.
Anyway, check the links.
My favourite is Gravure. I do not know if it is in the POVRAY links
section. There is also Terrain Maker, from the maker of an old animation
tool for povray (I forgot his name) - Varmint.
You want to be FANCY :)
Check out: www.planetside.co.uk/terragen
I'll not tell you what is that :) You just have to explore. Check the
Resources area on that page for tools to export a terragin terrain into a
POVRAY height field.

Wasn't it Zac Trolley who wrote:

1. Make sure that you haven't switched from official POV-Ray to MegaPOV.
GIF support has been removed from MegaPOV for legal reasons.

2. Try loading the troublesome GIF into an image editing package and
perform a "Save As". This should regularize any non-standard features
that sTile99 might be applying to the data. If that doesn't work, try
saving it as a .png file.
