Hello

Just wondering if any pov-ray artists have made any money from their work?

Has anyone made any money from zazzle.com?

What is the 'in' graphics at the moment?

Are fractal images still selling?

What about organic surreal art, is this selling at the moment?

I am just wondering what option to make some money from povray.

Thanks

darrenf

If you go to http://www.zazzle.com/products/gallery/featured_235.asp

There's a list of "hot products", which I am speculating actually means
"best sellers this week," but remember that zazzle once referred to images
with most page view hits as "bestsellers"

I hope I don't embarass our friend by repeating it, but Gilles once said he
was making $40 a month at zazzle, and keep in mind that his work is
unsurpassed.

If you can survive for several years on a diet of pizza crumbs then povray
is a real money-maker for you ;-) Otherwise, the most efficient option
(untested) to make money from povray involves writing a song about povray,
having Britney Spears sing it and getting the royalties.

Kidding apart, you'll be better off learning Max, Maya or any other pro
package and then looking for a job at a design/movie/sfx company.

I'd use a scanned bank-note and an image-map. With good quality printing you
might get away with it.

Probably more a "pick of the day" thing.

I did $40 once but it's more likely to be 20$/month at best these days. Of
course with this I could live in rural Peru for a couple of months (source
for this figure http://www.abc.net.au/rn/deakin/stories/s298639.htm).

Grinding the 700-page Pov-ray manual into a very fine white dust and selling
it as a powerful, dream-inducing, family-wrecking, horrendously addictive
drug could be an option too.

Dang, the legend keeps changing. I was trying to convince my sister-in-law,
a highly talented photographer, to get into zazzle, as she contemplates a
change in living style as she gets divorced. The first version of the
legend I told her was that I knew someone making $90/month! ;)

I've had zero luck with zazzle, but I have sold some 8 1/2 x 11 ink-jet
prints to some people on ebay. Every great once in a while, I'll get a
request for a custom graphic job - website graphics, logo for a band, that
sort of thing. Not exactly rolling in the dough, but it safer than selling
heroin.

Yes, I was writing about POV and related software before six years (in one
non-english language). On the other hand, about 70% visits to my site are
for POV and related stuff. I financing this site from my 3d animator's
salary, working with 3dsMax and XSI.
So, my POV account is lower than 0 (zero). My Zazzle account is a right 0
(zero) . Even I really didn't work on this Zazzle stuff too much.

Maybe (maybe...) things can change, if we can see some decent animation
editors for POV (with function curves, dopeshit, skeleton system, just like
in Blender, not much more, just to be finished and user friendly). I hope
just one of the POV-Ray programming genius (we can see a lot of here...:)
will spend a some time for this. POV is a powerfull, fast and -very- stable
raytracer, but I didn't found a way to be a more productive with any 3d than
a good 2d drawer, in case of stills. Animation is the other story.
