Has anyone ever found good radiosity settings for outdoor, rocky
terrain?  I have a scene with a lot of rock, and the surfaces not under
direct sunlight are unnaturally black, even with my "default" radiosity
settings.

  Radiosity is not idealy suited for direct outdoor lighting conditions.
This is why you will see Radiance for example used primarily for indoor
architectural work and not for outdoors use. If your shadows are too
strong bump up your ambient finish statement a little bit.

Try using UVPov, which has several radiosity enhancements and bug fixes. 
Also, make sure your background color is not black, and that the scene 
is entirely enclosed with something, like a very large sphere for the 
sky. I don't know if the sky_sphere affects radiosity, but I would 
assume it does.

My scene is heavily dependent upon the superpatch's isosurfaces, especially
3dnoise. (Dooh! just gave away my IRTC idea!).

I fear that UVPOV would not have isosurfaces.  Can anyone say "3.5"?

Well, I think I heard Nathan was working on incorporating the Superpatch 
into UVPov...and the next version of the Superpatch might contain the 
radiosity stuff...but I don't know when those versions will be released 
or if it will be before POV 3.5.

Hrm, the Smellenbergh Multipatch is based on UVPov 6.2(I think) and has 
isosurfaces, trace, and a bunch of other Superpatch features. The source 
is available, someone might be able to compile it for Windows(it is Mac 
only).
