Hi all,

I have a Poser3.0 model of a horse (freely available from
http://www.probe.net/~lannie) and
would like to play around with it in povray. It needs to be exported
from Poser into .RIB
format - from there I can convert it to .POV, hopefully without losing
any of the structural
information on the way, using poser2pov.

Only problem is, I have Poser1.0, and it can't load the model. I really
didn't want to have to
upgrade just for this one problem - if anyone has Poser3.0 & would like
to help, please let
me know.

Cheers,
-Andrew

Poser is aquired by another company and they made Poser demo
downloadable, perhaps this can be used? AFAIK, this demo will work 30
days...

up until version 4 of poser the rib exporter was broken.
and unless you want to do quite a bit of work, its really not possible to
convert rib to pov. the scene description is totally different in renderman

the easiest way is to ask someone to convert the model into obj, then you
can use any number of free converters to convert the model into a pov-ray
triangle mesh

Interesting. Guess that Perl script I wrote to do exactly that for
version 3 poser .rib files doesn't really exist then. Silly me.

(Anyone who wants it can find it at the below URL, but it's been somewhat
surpassed by recent developments.)

My opinions. Mine. Not anyone else's.

okay maybe broken was the wrong word. how about not usable? I've done
exports from poser to rib and the geometry gets totally screwed up.

Thanks Vahur, I'm downloading it now, although on the website it says:

"In this trial version there is limited functionality with libraries,
creating movies, import/export, and saving."

I'll post a message here if it seems at all usable for exporting to povray.

Cheers,
-Andrew

The Poser 4.0 demo has all file save & export functions disabled,
along with quite a few other key features. Suppose it was too
good to be true 8(.
