Please note that we will be upgrading the POV-Ray server's operating
system over the next few days. This will result in some downtime for all
hosted content (wiki, news server, IRTC website, etc).

Looking forward to seeing the upgrades done successfully.

Best wishes,

Sven

And me, finally:
That's all I know. Maybe a newer Linux OS, but they would have to tell us. I
can't.

Last time I logged in I seem to remember BSD unix (FreeBSD) when I did
uname -a

Good to see that at least some people dare to fight against the predominance
of Microsoft, Apple and Linux. There *are* more than three operating systems
out there. We should appreciate that we have a lot more choice.

Upgrade is done as well as a bunch of binaries (apache, php, mysql,
etc). There is some fallout, I expect I will discover more over time. At
a minimum, there's some date problems with php or mysql - the dates on
the front news page aren't working properly, and news.povray.org is
displaying times as if they were GMT (e.g. most recent post is about 6
hours earlier than it actually was). I'll sort these out over the coming
days.

Chris, I am interested to set up such a news server on my server location,
too - similar to the POV-Ray newsgroups. Can you give me some ideas about
the requirements and installation procedures for such a news server? Thanks
a lot!

Well for starters try googling "what is nntp" ...... from there I'd imagine
it depends on what the target OS platform is!

I honestly can't help much there: the NNTP server we use is no longer a
current product, and the back-end (which hooks it up to the web view) is
a custom implementation done by ourselves.

These days, if you want to set up a forum, you are probably better off
starting off with something web-based, such as SMF.
