One reason I can think of myself is that you folks
out there think it is a very restricted kind of job.
That the image should be linked closely to the
subject and you are not familiar enough with the
research.
Let me stress that that is not the case. Any idea
that has even a remote link to heart, DNA or
hexagons would do. If Mehran was a Red Dwarf fan
probably even a reference to the Polymorh episodes
would have been OK.
Another one is that the meh### [at] mccl nl is not working
but I checked that and it is functional, if you have
other experiences, please inform me.

As far as hexagons, I would whip something up from existing code this
afternoon. In what configuration would you like the hexagons?
Alternately, find a DNA diagram on Google images and I or others here
can make an attractive version of it.

That is why I did post a large description in my post of may 20.
I really tried to describe it in such a way that everybody
could understand them. If that is not good enough, tell me
and I will try again.
Short answers:
- polymorphism: variant of genes that occur in the general population
and are though to be non-lethal.
- connexin: a protein. six of them (hence the hexagon) combine in the
cel membrane to form half a channel. They match to another group
of six in the neighbouring cel to form a channel that connects the
interior of both cells.

I will try to find images. I am mostly finding abstracts now without
images.

I am stil not very good at googling.
In stead I scanned an artist impression from
another thesis. Made by a collegue of mine.

Possibly, but that was not what I intended. If we wanted
that I could do it myself. We want to have something
more specific. And we all have our own style so I
would like to give my fellow POVers a change to create
something different.
We still have till Aug 1rst before he has to deliver
to the printer. My idea was that first a couple of POVers
would submit a rough idea. Then we could invite some to
realise a draft image. During this period there could
be interaction with the PhD (or me as an intermediate),
to try and get something both can be happy with. As this
takes time I proposed to pay at least some compensation.
At the end of that period (July 1rst) we would select
one and ask that POVer to create a final cover. There
will still be a month to complete the image, and I
know I would need that time to create something that I
would be happy with (get the right lighting scheme etc.).
The bottom line is that we want an image that has something
to do with the subject of the thesis but is not a direct
representation. A totally different viewpoint from an
artist with a different background is hight appreciated.
Shay, I have seen a couple of your images here, and e.g.
your two color shading image may be a style that could
work for this subject. If you would like to participate
and have over the next month some time to discuss things
with me and Mehran, please send a mail to: meh### [at] mcclnl

I like your style, very organic. No. 8 could serve as some
sort of hint of DNA.
See also my post to Shay and my original posts of may 20 for
more information on the decision points.
Same question to you: do you have time to discuss with us
how you can make something in your style that could be
used as a cover for this thesis?
In your case that could be as simple as making various
versions of No 8. to illustrate the idea of polymorphisms
or something complete different if you would prefer that.

This is not binary group. Some of readers still use modems and browse only non
binary groups with expectation that images are posted to binary group
according to decription of groups of this news server.
As for your image request: I had impression that image you are looking for is
pretty complex. But there was only few days to made it. Note that IRTC has two
months for making images and people hardly fit into that. Making good image
needs some time. I myself have a few ideas after reading your original post,
but I hardly could find time to realize them.

Whoops, sorry for that. It was less than 20k, but still I should not
have done
that.

The deadline for the render is Aug 1rst, my original post was June 20th,

there was even more than 2 months for the render. For some reason I
could not get that message across. I intended to devise some method
of bringing a 'cusomer' together with a 'renderer' and posted
that on may 20th. I never got any comment on that. From the replies
in this thread I assume now because it was not clear. I will extend
the first deadline to the end of the weekend.
