I have a copy of "Ray Tracing Creations" by Chris Young and Drew Wells.
It came with a PC floppy that contained POV 2.2 for DOS.

Right. Mine is the first one on Chris' page, with the domed city. The one
with the dove was Ray Tracing Worlds, obviously.

It's pretty amazing to look at what was considered the best of the best then
and compare it to any recent IRTC winners...

I have that book- that's the one that got me into all
of this- it had POLYRAY and the reason I got it over
the POV one at the time was because the POLYRAY one
worked without a math co-processor... not a slow way to
trace- a dead STOP way to trace- but it got me hooked
anyway...

yup. And a HORRIBLE modeller programmed in some sort
of BASIC- POVCAD I believe...

The book was rather badly written now that I look at it
and could have used a lot more clarifying points...

But why bother? I'm not interesting.

Yeah, Polyray is still a whole stack of fun to play with. So much versatility!

I've still got a Windows version of POVCAD on my hard drive.
It's got a couple of tools I use on occassion such as spline
creation and extruded meshes. It's not for the faint of heart
however and could really do with an update (long since abandoned).

I too first used Polyray, was at the start of my ray tracing experience,
just some months before encountering POV-Ray. The coprocessor thing
mentioned here reminded me that at the time I also didn't have a math
coprocessor but added one in at some point. Must have been to use POV-Ray
and I had forgotten about it until now.

P.S. Yea! I found a used Ray Tracing Creations book for sale online for $15
and grabbed it up.

wow-
a book about polyray.
something new to search for.

I guess my POV experience goes back a little farther. I started out using POV
(Version 1 I believe) on a 286-12 with no math coprocessor. At the time, there
were two versions of POV for DOS, one that required a coprocessor, and one that
didn't. This went away with the release of version 2. BTW, I own a copy of
Raytracing Worlds, and still refer to it from time to time for the wealth of
insights that it offers.
