I updated the raytracing section of my website:
http://www.schunter.etc.tu-bs.de/~chris/raytracing.html
It now contains the following new (or updated) sections:
- Povray's warp statement - black_hole warps
- Povray's warp statement - displace warps
- Povray's crackle pattern - crackle metric/offset
- Povray's crackle pattern - crackle form
- MegaPov's glow function
- MegaPov's radiosity
Hope you find things useful, comments welcome as usual,
Christoph

A very complete set of examples...but I think MegaPOV 0.6 has an older
version. I have added a second displacement method which you should find
interesting: it uses the differences in brightness of the control
pigment's color to push the texture around.

In addition to types 2 and 3 not being complete, the size keyword
doesn't seem to always work correctly, you may want to warn about this.
Currently, the best way to control the size is with the brightness.

Oh thanks, I knew there was something more but i did not remember what it was
when reading the mp06 docu. Will it be added to Megapov/Povray 3.5 ?
Anyway i'm going to check it out.

I did not include type 2&3 for that reason, with the size keyword i do not
remember having any problems, when do they occur ?

The new version might be in the next version of MegaPOV, but I doubt the
displace warp will make it into 3.5.

I noticed problems when an object was behind the glow: the distance of
objects behind the glow seems to interfere with the size of the glow.

That sounds ok to me, although it's a really powerful feature ...
BTW, I just put an additional table for 'type 1' to the displace warp section on
my website.

I will try to check that out.

It just came along too late...

It looks like you know my patch better than I do... :-)
Some neat effects...I wonder if the displace patch would be useful in
making those tiling procedural patterns.
> I will try to check that out.
I have a pretty good idea of the problem, I know I am scaling the wrong
values...I just have to reverse engineer the equations to figure out
what to scale.

I posted something like that some days ago to p.b.i:
Subject: again more pattern fun ... (29+29+33k)

As said there it's not very easy to control, especially if you work with several
displace warps.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is any solution for this. The idea of
using color values as displacement amounts is likely to confuse anyone
who doesn't understand exactly how warps work, since it gives you direct
control over the values used. The second type of displacement warp
should be easier to understand, since colors aren't considered
directions and distances, it just pushes the pattern toward or away from
areas depending on their brightness.
Still, it is a lot more complex than, say, glows or black hole warps.
