Yet another POV-Ray Logo Contest discussion.
Should we allow the authors of the logos to explain the concept etc. of the
logo in a text file?
The argument against is that a logo should make sense without an
explanation.
The argument for is that even though a logo should work fine without an
explanation, it can sometimes work even better *with* an explanation.
What do you think?

Rune

I think it would be preferable if the author could add some personal
comments about it. For example, how the idea came about, and why he/she
feels this logo should win.

I do think that the author should get a few words in.

Gut reaction is very important when viewing a logo for the first time( or any
piece of art). Hearing about the piece first can alter the way you think about
the piece when you see it. Just think about any media hype about any
disapointing movie.

I agree, and that is my concern.
However, I guess it would be possible to say to the voters something like:
"before you read the text file for a logo, take note of what you think of
the logo. Reading the text file may change your view at the logo, but it is
important that you judge the logo also upon your first reaction." I don't
know if it will work though.
I personally think the arguments for and against having a text file is about
equally good, so I'll just wait and see what others say.

i think that author should be able to express his original idea and meaning
in a short sentence.
this is because there will be some gossip about each logo anyway and forcing
authors to be quiet is not very nice.
and since the logo would anyway be public one and maybe even commercial in
some sense, should the author be able to sell his idea with words too. just
like in commercial graphics.
and again, if there are people out there who don't understand even their own
feelings they will vote anyway the same thing as the others. they want to be
on the winners side.
and such a short describing sentence couldn't even affect to anyone since an
advertisement have to repeated at least seven times before it even goes
through. that's why they play those things again and again.

Hi everybody!
Another argurment: people asking for advice here (on this news server) do
already describe their logo a bit. So, we are already "corrupted". I think
it wouldn't be fair to remove the text explanation for people not from this
ng or for dead-liners.
Just my 2 eurocents.

I think the arguments for a text file are good, and the majority is for it
anyway, so I have added the option.
You can see the rules that have been made so far at:
