Subject:
height field

I'm creating a scene with a mountain range in the background. I used
Photoshop and the airbrush tool to paint my height field file. When I
render it, there are holes in it. If I remove smoothing, the holes
disappear.
I've scaled the height field by 2100 in the x and z directions and by
700 in the y direction. Could this be causing the problem? The image
file is 1200 x 1200 pixels.
Thanks,
RJay Hansen

Apparently 'smooth' is faulty, sorry to say.

Well, you don't have to take my word for it. I was only passing along what I had
heard
around here.

Please note: The known and verified height field problems Bob refers to do
not cause the observed problem.
If you would like others to take a look at your problem, and in order to
determine if the problem you are having is a bug or a user error, please do
the following:
- Post an example file (as JPEG) in the group POV-Ray binaries.images and
include a description of your problem and expected output.
- Post the source code and height-field image (the height field images i.e.
as Targa image) in a ZIP archive in povray.binaries.scene-files and include
a description of your problem and expected output.
Based on this information others should be able to resolve, verify or offer
a workaround for your problem.
Thorsten

Thanks for the direction Thorsten. I got a couple of useful suggestions but
they didn't completely eliminate the problem. I've decided to create the
heightfield with no smoothing since it will be in the background.
