Dear readers and writers,
I very hope that you can help me, because I develope in a project which must be ready
within 2 days.
It would give me a very happy smile if you could try to help me, please.
The matter is quit simple, but the solution is difficult:
An advertisment-paper must be dropped on a globe-building (globe1.jpg).
1. step:
To render the prints, I need to map a 2D-texture (globe3.jpg) to a sphere (spherical
mapping).
The printer is able to print long stripes (about 2meter width,30meter height),
which will be layed over the building. The result is globe2.jpg.
2. step:
After mapping I need to cut and re-map the sphere into 2D-stripes from pole to pole to
get printable.
So I have to transform 36 stripes from 3D into 2D-print-textures.
Please help me in step 2:
How do I re-map the 3D-texture into 2D-stripes and which is the best software to
achieve this task?
So you know of any good tutorials on internet which covers my questions?
Thank you very much for your time !!
Aachen, Germany

Please don't post binary attachments to non-binaries groups. Thanks.

PLEASE NOTE:
It is UNACCEPTABLE that you also spam everybody in this group*. I will
complain to GMX and ask them to close your account. I don't care for an
apology, so don't bother sending it!
Thanks,
Thorsten
* For the few who didn't get his spam: He e-mailed most people in this
group. In total something around 82 KB (including attachments) to more than
a hundred people.

Wow, I didn't get an email. Either that or I failed to see it if it looked
somewhat spammy. Thanks for letting the rest of us know anyway.
I was beginning to wonder if it was even POV
related. Although the idea of printing out a globe-applicable image
is a good one I never found any way to actually do this for a 2D image.
That is, to split the image into slices while rendering or using a utility
to do so. Only found the method used and I can't make much use of it.
Maybe there's something out there I didn't stumble across.

How rude you must be in real life, clamoring for attention like that. If you
took the job and can't do the work, perhaps you should let someone else have
the contract rather than sending unwanted attachments to everyone on
this -non-commercial- NG.

My sentiments exactly. I'm already on the NG, he doesn't need to send it to
my e-mail. What a jerk.

That's insane! I'm glad that you're complaining, I'd encourage others that
were affected to do so too...
(I didn't get the email, I guess because I don't have it in my posts
anymore)
What did he do, CC it?

No, not even that, he used the "To:" field! <sigh>
He also split the e-mail in three groups, sorted alphabetically by first
name.

Oh, and as response to my e-mail to quit spamming me this is what I got as
response. He now got the idea to hide his misconduct next time...

<snips response>
That's sly... and then he STILL asks you if you can tell him how to do it!
:-\
If he knew that he didn't know how to do it, perhaps he shouldn't have taken
on the job in the first place.

Dear readers,
I read the statements about my person. I apologize by everyone who feels disturbed by
my questions!
As I am new to newsgroups I made two big mistakes. First I send an attachment to an
non-binary newsgroup and second I did a
mass-mailing to several readers of this newsgroup to get in direct contact with the
possibility of an attachment to provide project
details. I learned how to behave correctly and will never do that again! And mistakes
are human and we all learn from them!
It is my interest to provide and share know-how to and with you.
In my opinion it is not minor rude to offend my person in such ways like Bill DeWitt:
"How rude you must be in real life, clamoring for attention like that".
or like Thorsten Froehlich:
"I will complain to GMX and ask them to close your account."
With these and other statements you proved no better behaviour than mine.
Marc
