Greetings all... I have a simple question...
Every time I open POV-Ray 3.1, I get that annoying little
'LEGAL' thinggy.... Can I get that turned off somehow?

Hi, KaosKidd. Nope, it can't be disabled - it's there for a reason.
Also, it doesn't display itself every time the program is opened. I
think it defaults to once a day and subsequent program openings do not
bring up the window.

I only see the "legal" dialog box when switching between versions (official
Pov-Ray for Win and MegaPov). As it turns out you can change the Pvengine.ini
file after you quit POV and stop that from happening by making a line in that
file read: version=win32 or version=unofficial-win32 depending on which POV you
leave last and want to start up next.
Not really worth the extra effort to do so though is it? Anyway it could be
done, you'd just need to run a batch file which changes that file accordingly
after each program exit.
This leads me to wonder what is going on there in your case since like I said it
only happens when I switch versions or if the system time is advanced a certain
period since the last run. Checking it out here a one month advance caused it
to show up, but a second attempt to do the same did not until several months
advance was done on the system clock.
Could be related to some problem with your system clock, but that's just
speculation. I run POV so often it probably gets little chance to reset.

The only time I ever see it is if I switch between different versions
of POV-Ray such as the official version and one of the patched versions.
Otherwise if I run the same version of POV-Ray consecutively I never
see it.

By default it shows up if it has been more than 24 hours since you last used
POV-Ray. I don't know of any way of disabling this short of changing the
source code and recompiling POV-Ray.

Perhaps that ItsAboutTime= line in the Pvengine.ini file is what keeps a
running tab on that dialog box. So if it were never more than a certain number
different from the previous one maybe that would stop it from happening.
Can't believe I'm talking about hacking such fine freeware. Like I said before
I rarely encounter it myself, if a day has to go by then that tells me a lot
about my habits.
Anyway, looking at the number after a few runs and exits in a row I found it
didn't change. Might be a Julian Date counter so when a day passes the number
shifts by 1 but I don't see how that would check against being used or not.
Maybe checks against the number of runs there too.
Hey, you could always leave Pov open instead.

This might sound silly but try switching off the tips shown at startup
(if not already switched off.)
