As an OS/2 user since the days it became 32bit and 100% MS-Free (April
'92),
I remember seeing 32bit POV ports on walnut creek Hobbes cd-roms as
early
as '93.

However, to my dismay, OS/2 is nowhere to be found (not even listed
on the description) in the main povray.org web page (with the only
exception of the 'os/2' raytraced bitmap).

There is an os/2 port of v3.1something in http://hobbes.nmsu.edu,
why can't you link to it?. Sorry for having to post this, but I guess
amiga and other unix users screamed loud to have their platforms listed
too ;).

Well, don't get me wrong. You seem to be doing a great job.
Congratulations!

Amiga and Linux are official versions supported by the POV-Team. As OS/2 is
not officially supported, it is not listed. It is the same for FreeBSD,
LinuxPPC, Atari TOS, Irix and millions of other operating systems no
supported.

There are two driving reasons why the POV-Team will offer a port for a
particular platform. One is popularity of the platform and the second
is having a POV-Team member who has that platform available to work on.
If there is no one on the POV-Team the has OS 2 set up on their system
they have no way to compile and test for that platform and cannot support
it. They will not link to unofficial compiles like the one you listed
because they have no way of offering support for unofficial compiles of
the program. As the maintainer of the links pages for the POV-Team I
do try to keep up with unofficial ports of the program and I will place
a link on the links pages to any that people let me know about. That is
about the only kind of linking to unofficial versions that you can
expect from the team.

VMS and BeOS unofficial ports exist but are also not supported. I do
provide some limited support for users trying to compile under Unix
versions other than Linux, but without the hardware and the software,
there's only so much I can do. SunOS support is a little weak at the
moment on account of my not having access to a Sun box.

I know Amiga is not unix. I've been an Amiga user since about 1988.
If I turn to the right now, I see my lovely Amiga 500 with 40MB SCSI
HD, 8 MB Fast Ram, 2 Mb Chip, Workbench/KS 2.04 and a genlock.

where it said:
"Amiga, and other unix versions"

should have said:
"Amiga, and other versions like unix"

Clear enough?

Makes me wish that I had kept my Amiga 2000. But At the
time I could only keep so many systems in one house at one
time. Oh well, what's past is past.
