I want to render a complex object in povray, entirely from glass, but I
can't use meshes with interior {I_Glass}, because meshes don't have
interior and are not permitted in intersections because are not
infinite... All glass objects from all demos I have seen are simple
objects like spheres, boxes etc,
but what about a HORSE?

thanks
Calin

IIRC uvpov has meshes with interior...

Having tried it just once there didn't seem to be a problem with regular
POV-Ray v3.1g and a triangle mesh with the interior {I_Glass} added to it.
UVPov is at: http://nathan.kopp.com/patched.htm just in case of a problem.

This is exactly right. Interiors work just fine with closed, well-behaved
meshes, and even with a union of triangles or bezier patches. Interior
won't work, however, if you have a single patch object or if the object
isn't closed or well-behaved (e.g. a Klein bottle)

A few months ago I posted and image of glass horse heads that were constructed
from a mesh. Even allowing for the fact that the mesh was open at the neck it
worked very well. As the others explained it will depend on how well behaved
the mesh it but I see no reason you should have problems with it. If you do
experience problems conversion programs like 3DWin and CrossRoads have a normal
flipping feature that can help correct for mesh surface normal problems.

Was it rendered with uvpov or the official povray?

It worked equally well in either though I will admit that the image I
posted here was with the first version offering the photon stuff. In
fact I ran into problems with trying to shorten the necks of the horse
by intersecting them with a plane but once I abondoned that attempt I
still had the results I wanted in either version.

Hi, merath. Nice shell object but you might want to read, "Where can I
post my binary or text file?" in the group:

povray.announce.frequently-asked-questions

Please also consider posting smaller binary attachments, as a 353k file is
pretty sizable, even for our binaries.images group.

Thanks for your help in keeping our groups organized.
