A few months ago I posted and image of glass horse heads that were constructed
from a mesh. Even allowing for the fact that the mesh was open at the neck it
worked very well. As the others explained it will depend on how well behaved
the mesh it but I see no reason you should have problems with it. If you do
experience problems conversion programs like 3DWin and CrossRoads have a normal
flipping feature that can help correct for mesh surface normal problems.
