Since I came here people were nice to me. Except of course my first post,
which was " >>>!!!Please read this!!!<<< ", posted 5/24/98 in
.animations... I was inquiring into getting some help animating a robot I
had made, and guess who answered first?
"I think you should post this in povray.general or
povray.binaries.animations
because we are really only here for the Internet Movie Project and the
themes have already been decided for it.

He was quickly corrected and apologized and all went on OK. I had another
skirmish with him later on, but all was quickly settled. I have actually had
several 'battles' here, but the people are wonderful, intelligent people and
know how to end disputes quickly and in a civilized manner. I like that. =)
In my time here, I have seen many leaders of the pack pop out. One who
caught my attention early on is our good friend Mr. Tyler, with his humor,
and excelent POVing skills. Then I started noticing Nieminen, Rune, Ron,
Peter, Greg, Marc, and a lot of other people. One person whom I disliked
from the start is our friend Giwer, whose posts have something I never
liked. Perhaps a slight air of arrogance? Perhaps that they were a bit
excessive in the beginning? In any case, I have grown used to his postings,
which have begun to dwindle a bit and have just gotten on with it, and
enjoyed this excellent resource of information and idea discussion.
I think that the stages I have seen have been where the group as a whole
shifts importance from one subgroup to another. For example, a while ago,
the main characters were the artists, then it shifted towards the
intellectuals, and now I see the programmers/patchers pretty much in the
center of attention. This shift does not affect the previous importance of
the others, who become the respected 'elders', so to speak, whose words are
held in high regard.

but I've learnt my lesson now. :) No hard feelings? (I will openly admit
I'm very arrogant at times by the way, I'm just too young and naive I guess)
In my little conclusionary statement to this whole thing (that seems to
really be dragging out now):
1. The new millennium *technically* starts on 01/01/2001 ;-) I just had to
say it! hehe!
2. Well it's nice to see that everyone's calmed down and got back to work.
:)
3. Thanks to everyone here that has helped me out.
4. Thanks to the POV-Team for providing such a wonderful program and
server!!!
5. I hope that in my time here so far I've been of some help to all you
wonderful people!
"Keep on tracing!"

Okay, I hesitated to do this but: what's this about. To which thread/message is
this referring? I seem to have missed a lot of excitement. Am I the only one not
getting this?

In the "BLESS YOU!" thread... most of the action is a fair few levels deep.

The "BLESS YOU" thread started originaly as the " #read #fiasco " thread then
changed names once the poster found the info needed and was thanking those
that helped. All hell broke loose shortly there after.

Thank you! I had an entertaining half hour over this thread once I found it. I
thought it ran for a long time but it seems to have taken only about a day to
fire things up. Perhaps it was the eclipse (for us Europee-ers).
I'm glad I didn't get caught up in that thing, but to put things in perspective:
a couple of months ago the VCards started to irritate me too. Especially because
in the binaries groups I tend to look for the binaries first, just finding
another VCard. Since most messages with a VCard were from M.G. I contacted him
through (private) e-mail kindly asking him if he would consider leaving the
VCards out. I never got a reply. So, as he suggested, I
unsystematically/semi-conciously filtered his messages, just skipping most of
them. Did anyone notice? Did I bother anyone? Did I miss anything? Well, yes, of
course: I missed a juicy flamewar.
Most of the time these type of things are not worth the bother, but they can be
"fun". Perhaps blowing of steam in one of these groups will prevent someone from
beating up the kids for once ;-)
Hm ,what I was trying to say: the discussion was partly about "netiquette". Is a
flameware netiquette? If so...(fill in your own conclusion)
Regards and have fun (and peace of course),
Remco
