I understand the basic idea of radiosity, and I think it would help some
of my scenes. But I'm confused by all this distance-error-reuse stuff,
and the documentation had me lost back at the word apple. Can someone
give me, or point me too, a good comprehensive explanation of all these
parameters? I need a sort of "Radiosity for Dummies"...

The best settings seem to be user and scene dependant. For example, he
says:
"1. Adaptive sampling method is pretty inacurate and doesn't seem to speed

unwanted artifacts in a picture, so keep DISTANCE_MAXIMUM at 0."
I used distance maximum 1 in my test images and they look quite good.
Lowering it to less than 1 slows down the rendering.
"2. Higher COUNT than 200 doesn't produce much better results, but it slows
down raytracing. Keep it round 150 if not doing scenes with lots of small
objects that are emitting light."
Well, with the images in my "radiosity test 2"-page using a count of
150 makes them quite awful.

The only tip I can give you is to make the scale of your scenes really
large. Don't do like me and contain the entire radiosity scene in a 1,-1
box, use a 10,-10 or larger box.

offers also at least one reference scene on which
everybody can sharpen their teeth.

I didn't mean really-really large. Besides, as you noticed, I added that a
10,-10 box should do it.

Thanks for the help.
What I really wanted was sort of a way to determine the best values before
rendering, but it seems I'll have to just guess and check on some things
:-(. I'm too impatient to wait three days for a render, and this is sort of
a "family" computer, so I'd better not tie it up that long anyway. I did get
at least some useful tips from the links, though. Unfortunately they were
mostly "wait longer for better image" :-)

PS. I put radiosity in "trapped" and it's been rendering for 7:30:00 now and is
at only 35%. It better turn out right... (mumble mumble grumble)
