Thanks for the help.
What I really wanted was sort of a way to determine the best values before
rendering, but it seems I'll have to just guess and check on some things
:-(. I'm too impatient to wait three days for a render, and this is sort of
a "family" computer, so I'd better not tie it up that long anyway. I did get
at least some useful tips from the links, though. Unfortunately they were
mostly "wait longer for better image" :-)
