Well, I have to come in here somewhere, and this is a good starting point..

I'm looking for a good Newsreader, and I wanted to know what you are using and
where to get/find info about it..

Questions:

What OS are you using?

What newsreader?

Does it support threads?

Well, Please don't repeat a result, since I'm not after the statistics, but the
information.
My system:

OS:
	Win95
Reader:
	Netscape 4.5
Threads:
	Yes
...and...
OS:
	Linux
Reader:
	none
Threads:
	NO

the email adress in the reply-to field is valid, as is this newsgroup.

slrn on both (though at the moment, at home, I'm using Agent on

Win95.) For Linux, you should be able to find slrn on your install
CDs. If you can't find it for Windows, let me know and I'll try to
   track it down for you.

>Does it support threads?
both agent and slrn do, but slrn does a better job. slrn also
automatically skips crossposts if you've already seen them in
another group, and it can use the references header to re-retrieve
the previous article in the thread from the news server if you
don't understand the followup you're reading.

yes

I like the features of it but could also imagine to use a 'real'
newsreader instead.

Win95b
Netscape Communicator 4.51 and WinVN
Yes for both

WinVN is for Windows (obviously) and freeware though commits you to a
file download if attachments are present and doesn't allow stopping once
started from what I know about it. I don't use it unless I need to track
a message down. Haven't figured a way to easily do that with NS
Communicator.
WinVN can be gotten at:

  ftp://ftp.ksc.nasa.gov/pub/winvn/

MTNW (Multi-threaded NewsWatcher)

Reads multiple groups simultaneously, has outstanding advanced filtering features,
supports multiple server access.

No way will I ever use Netscape or Outlook after using this one!

MacOS, sometimes Win98, sometimes Win95 over VPC on my Mac
Netscape 4.51
Fully supports threads.

I like the look and feel of Netscape... I haven't foudn much on either Mac or
Windows that works as well for me.

  For reading news? SunOS.

: What newsreader?

  tin

: Does it support threads?

  Yes.

It's in text mode only, though (so images are not shown). I still like it.
Some people like slrn or nn more. I have never tried. They could be better.

This is a repeat, but added some extra comments.

Win95

Outlook (IE5)

Yes

Other Notes:
Very good for views, searching, etc.
Can't seem to differentiate between a message body and attachment; get one,
get both.
A bit microsofty in that it keeps trying to anticipate what kind of
connection I want to make (I use two methods to connect to internet).
In various areas, manages the ol' Redmond trick of being both fiddly and
over-simplified, but on the whole I recommend it.
I have to say (shame!) I can also recommend IE5 - it's much faster than IE4,
seems lighter on resources, and you can save a web page, images and all, as
an archive-file or seperate files. (there is that invisible POV buttons bug
to cope with 'though).
