Finally the POV Screensaver made by
Remco de Korte is ready.

It can be downloaded from this page:
http://hjem.get2net.dk/rsj/misc.htm

The screensaver shows random quotes
from the treat "you know you have been
raytracing too long when..."

The screensaver is part of The POV
Desktop Theme.
More information on the POV Desktop
Theme can be found on the address above.

Greetings,

Thank you, Rune and Remco. It's now -- well not *now* -- I'm
typing *now* -- my official screensaver.

Hi Remco!

Thought I might give you some feedback:

I downloaded your screensaver and tried it on my NT 4.0 (SP 3) box.
Unfortunately, I can not change the settings of the screensaver. That means,
if I open
Desktop->Properties->Screensavers and choose the POV screensaver then click
on "Settings", nothing happens.
Because of this, I can not adjust the speed of the saver (I do assume that
it is possible to adjust the speed in the settings?) and therefore the saver
changes quotes so fast, that I can barely read the first line of each one...
Also, on the Desktop->Properties->Screensavers dialog-page, where you
usually see a thumbnail preview of the screensaver running, no such thing
appears, the little monitor screen stays blank and black.

And a suggestion:
You might want to consider changing the background periodically too, because
with such large areas of static image, the whole purpos of a screen*saver*
is somewhat defeated, isn't it?

Otherwise, nice work! I would like to use it, but with the quotes changing
so fast it is not much fun :(

Johannes

Well, I run 98 and I can't access the settings either, I just don't think
that the screen saver supports it... also I don't think it supports the
preview either...

I agree with the background image changing too... It sort of doesn't really
make it a screen saver at all... in fact, quite the opposite...

Does it check the cpu usage before activating? If
not is that possible. I don't use a screensaver at the moment
because AfterDark (which I used to use) activated during my
renderings and slowed them down.

That's why I don't use screen savers either... especially on renderings that
may be going for weeks... it could mean a few more days!

My screen is set up to switch itself off after 30 minutes of inactivity...
that way it doesn't slow down rendering at all... :)

Actually, I can't think of a monitor manufactured in the last five years or so
that actually need a screen saver, the screens don't suffer burn in like they
used to, so the purpose of a screen saver is partially a privacy issue and
mostly pure enjoyment. I haven't tried this one, but I'm enjoying the IRTC
images way too much right now
