Hi,
Anyone know when POV 3.1e will be available for non-compuserve members to
download? Seems the files are already at
http://cis-forum.povray.org/official.htm - but can't be downloaded by
non-compuserve users :( www.povray.org still only has 3.1d for download.
Matt

I followed the link listed above and arrived at the Web view of
CompuServe's GO POVRAY Forum. When I clicked on the link to "Get Official
POV-Ray 3.1e for Linux", a request for authorization would appear. I can
gain access to this download because I've got a CompuServe account but I
don't believe it is available to non-members. Were you able to download
v3.1e from this .url without a CompuServe account?
Best bet to obtain POV-Ray v3.1e is to check periodically at povray.org
for updated links. The POV-Team normally posts new/revised versions to the
GO POVRAY Forum first, as it allows for faster feedback from members and
subsequent corrections/substitutions of the binaries should the need arise.
It's just a lot easier for the POV-Team to make changes in-house <s>.
Povray.org is usually updated within a few weeks to provide access to the
new versions of POV-Ray.

I had no problems downloading (more than renaming), I ahve the source in
http://histgr168.sn.umu.se/~peter/pov3.1e.TGZ
I haven't compiled it though ( it unpacks correctly).

But I would love to see a anon. CVS for pov, with a std. tree and a
superpatch tree.
I really hate that compuserve thing, because it's nonfree and it's not
possible to see all those great works of art there are.

Why is it that every time a new version is released, some people get
paranoid about if it will be freely distributable or not?
Delay in availability doesn't mean it will not be available. They have
to test their program. If they publish each version right after it's
compiled, we would have a povray 3.1099999832h every week.

Sorry, I didn't mean to give the impression of being paranoid. I was just
curious if there was anywhere non-compuserve members could download the (I
was thinking specifically windows) POV3.1e. Of course I know it will remain
freely distributed - I just like updating my version as soon as possible :)

The Windows 3.1e is not even available on Compuserve yet (though it will be
within 24 hours).

You shouldn't have told them. Now they are going to get all
excited and we will have another rash of "Where can I get it ?"
and "When can I get it ?" questions.
< shrug >
Oh well I'm patient and can wait until it's fully cooked and
ready to serve. Just ring the bell when supper is ready.
