Hi, I'm curious, is there a rendering time differnce between
two objects that are unioned and two objects that are merged? And
while on the topic, what's the difference between them? They both
seem to do the exact same thing to me. Thanks.

You might want to check out the POV VFAQ at
http://iki.fi/warp/povVFAQ.html#csgspeed
<p>
You might also want to check out the fine manual. If that
doesn't make sense to you, try rendering some semitransparent
objects with union and merge and see if you can see the difference.
<p>
PS: Notice how <font size="+5" color="#ff0000">ANNOYING</font> HTML

Very so. I really thought the message blank until I viewed it in my reply...

A proper answer!! ;-)
Kyle, you have been asked before to send your messages in plain text
*NOT* html. There are several newsreaders out there that show a lot of
rubbish when they read your posts (have a look at the source of Ron's
reply)!!
I just saw that you use Netscape 4.5 on Win95. OK!
EDIT>PREFERENCES>MAIL&GROUPS>MESSAGES>MORE OPTIONS>ALWAYS CONVERT
MESSAGES INTO PLAIN TEXT
I hope this helps,
Marc

I paid it no mind until I saw the red and the over-emphasized "ANNOYING"...
I didn't even notice any difference in download time (it's only 2K)
but, then again, I'm running a fairly bulky news/email reader that doesn't
balk at much... add to that an unlimited account at 26,400 actual connect
speed on a 33.6 modem through close to 80 MILES of phone line..

That's cuz you're using Outlook Express. Those using Netscape (as is
the person to whom I was replying have the horror of the <blink> tag to
deal with as well.
>I didn't even notice any difference in download time (it's only 2K)
But the issue isn't download time. It's that the article doesn't display
correctly on a real newsreader (that is, one that isn't really a web
browser in disguise.) Some of us know HTML and are sometimes willing to
wade through all the tags and entities and crud to get to the
meat of the message, but it's often not worth it. For a while, in fact,
I had my newsreader configured to kill on the Content-Type: header, thus
effectively ignoring all HTML posts. This turned out to be too costly,
though, as that header is not included in the overview information so
SLRN has to download full headers for every new article on startup.
