Hi everybody,
here is the first part of my new project, the former Trans Europe Express train
of the onboard mechanics for this train.
I've finished the motor wagon, three more wagons to follow....
On the telly I saw a documentary called Ancient skies, and there were some very
interesting graphics showing our planetary system. So I'll drag myself away from
trains and move to an orrery.
Cheers
Ton.

train.

Very nice :)
You really do have a very nice - style - where everything is neat, and _smooth_,
and the textures are very well suited to the model.
Perhaps if you have a few moments at some point, you could jot down some notes
about how you go about planning and assembling your models and scenes.
I'm sure there would be something for everyone to learn - both new users and
experienced Povvers alike.

Oh.
You got bit by THAT bug, did you? :D
I found it to be very educational myself. The only part that I really didn't
work out was how to set everything into it's proper starting position "at epoch"
- so everything just sort of started at "0 degrees" and went around from
there.... because by that point I was getting _tired_ ;)
Unraveling the orbital mechanics was a little confusing at first, but I think
the biggest, and most unexpected PITA was trying to figure out how to unpack the
damned dates from the code they use... :|

Yeah! Again, the perfect model coming out of your hands!
One question: I seem to remember that the "nose" was not as angular as
in your model. More rounded. But I may confuse it with the "hondekop"
(dog's head) trains of that time. The TEE was clearly based on an
identical principle.

Oh, that is a different kettle of fish indeed. ;-)

Seems like there may have bee a few different styles in use, depending on date
and country.
https://infogalactic.com/info/Trans_Europ_Express
Image searches return loads of variations.
But still, he should redo it. :D :D :D

Thanks for the compliments, it's pure motivation.
Mr. Eagle, I might do a work-in-progress sequence for the next coach, to give an
indication of my "work-flow", my muddling and struggling through the molasses of
Povray to get a decent picture!
Meneer de Groot, I've attached a picture with the TEE and Mat54 for your
information. They are quite different.
I've searched in these forums for orreries, and found out that I am not the
first one. I'll probably won't be the last one....
For now I'm playing around with textures for my orrery base, and creating the
planets. I feel a bit like Slartibartfast......
Cheers

...just wait until I come up with my long-cherished railway project: the
10,000-Millimeter Ultra Wide Gauge Railway! Monstrous locomotives
powered by on-board nuclear fusion reactors, 200 meters long and 30
meters high, six- and eight-storey passenger cars, true rolling cities
equipped with all facilities of stationary cities, trains up 20 kms
long, so long that on board these trains a standard-gauge
"train-on-train" runs, transporting passengers to destinations within
the train!
But before I even think about starting this project, I will have to do
MUCH technical research...
And then building a world-wide 10,000-mm track network, including a
Gibraltar and Bering Strait tunnel... yes, even Hitler's famous-infamous
"Breitspurbahn" (only 3,000-mm gauge, how pathetic!) would be dwarfed to
a mere toy beside my railway system!
See you in Khyberspace!

Cool! So we don't need planes anymore?

Not only no planes (the trains would run at 300 kph), but even no cities
anymore! Snowpiercer de luxe!
And then imagine me as the bio-cybernetically immortalized World Emperor
who resides on his own private train, long-haired, bearded and crowned
with a living Eurasian lynx (Tristan, my genetically engineered
co-regent)...
(yes, I'm a habitual Civilization player...)
See you in Khyberspace!
