Is this all you're trying to do?
CSG is all you need - it's the texturing, not the shape that'll make it look
amazing.

Don't overcomplicate it.

I'm sure there must be plans for a ship.
Lay out the splines, and use prisms.
Or just buy a 3D model and edit it.

Off-topic, but I wanted to mention your image appearance, which is TRULY strange
on my end: I'm using the *latest* update to Firefox to view the newsgroups, and
this is what I'm seeing (they're screenshots)-- a vast difference between the
small newsgroup preview and the large one (from clicking on the small preview.)
Yikes!

Nutty PNG gamma, possibly? This looks like a worse problem than my own 'weird
PNG gamma' posting of several months ago!

I saw the same thing using Chrome - both at home at at work.

The PNG image in question has an alpha channel; everything except the
oar is transparent.

When firefox displays images "stand-alone" (as opposed to inside a HTML
page), it does so on what usually looks like a dark grey background; but
apparently that's actually just a passepartout-ish frame, while the
actual background (which is only visible in any transparent portions of
the image) defaults(*) to a light grey.

The piece of software used to generate the preview images, on the other
hand, seems to simply be ignoring the alpha channel, effectively turning
the transparent portions pitch black.

(*The PNG file format specification allows for the image header to
suggest a particular background colour for stand-alone display of the
image; however, the PNG image in question doesn't come with such a piece
of information. Also, the displaying application may or may not ignore
such a suggested background colour.)

Ah, so the image has an alpha channel; that didn't occur to me. I should have
downloaded it, and taken a look-see in one of my image apps.

Thanks Clipka; your explanations are lucid and enlightening, as always.

For some very strange reason, I find it absolutely hard to work with
WYSIWYG editors, but find it incredibly easy to work with the plain
POV-Ray text editor. But with that, i cannot edit existing models.

But also, all existing models are so faulty at so many places,
correcting all errors is not the best option. Only creating new models
is the only good options. The cause for all these wrong models that
exist is, that some decades ago two plastic model kit companies created
two model kits of "Roman" ships that are full of faults. Since that
time, everyone just uses these two ships as base for their own models -
and copy all the faults.

The only solution where I could bring in myself, is if I provide
hand-drawn sketches, and someone with WYSIWYG-editor skills (CSG) would
then create these models. I can also assist with color advises. In fact,
the resulting ships would be a true revolution.

That oar looks very good in its shape.
