I have taken up again my Paleo-Earth project. I wanted to thoroughly
test out Wilbur (http://www.fracterra.com/wilbur.html) for this and I am
rather satisfied.
These images are a first approximation of what I want to obtain. They
depict Earth during approximately the Middle Silurian period, about 420
million years ago.
The equatorial view shows the making of Euramerica: the collision of the
Laurentia-Greenland and the Baltica continents, closing the Iapetus
Ocean and forming the Caledonian mountain range between them,
approximately N-S here in the centre of the image. To the north, and
separated by the Ural Ocean, is the Siberia Continent, slowly moving
southwards.
The polar view shows Gondwanaland, the huge continent formed by South
America, Africa, Australia and India. Obviously, there are some problems
around the pole to solve ;-)
In space, the time travel transport vehicle is shown.

Speaking of time travel, been a very long time since I've seen Wilbur! Good to
see that again.
There's a Paleo Earth using GE plug-in but it's just flat:
http://phl.upr.edu/projects/visual-paleo-earth/google-vpe
That one also has pinching at the pole.

It had rested for quite some time in my archives. It is an interesting
little program with quite some surprising stuff.

Same source: the paleogeographic maps published by Scotese:
http://www.scotese.com/
Mapable versions of those can be found on the corresponding wikipedia
pages, e.g.:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silurian
From them, further work involves some extended reading (e.g. for those
interested: Ziegler, P.A. (1989): Evolution of Laurussia - A study in
late Palaeozoic plate tectonics.- Kluwer Academic Publishers) and a bit
of Photoshop/Gimp editing to get an acceptable ocean mask.

Hmmm... not very stylish! I rather would like to see a DeLorean DMC-12!
Or at least the American steam locomotive fitted with a flux capacitor
which is to be seen at the end of Back to the Future III...
Or what about a Tardis?
See you in Khyberspace!

You can borrow mine. The door sticks when it is raining and it is
painted postbox red. But other than that it works fine. :-)
Sometimes needs a bump start in the winter.

Give me the Crotalocephalus gibbus as 3D model, and I will wash your car
(or computer case)! Lived 397 to 416 million years ago! :-D
