Attached is image of what PoseRay 3.12.23.587 does to an object exported
from Moray (in this case, a sphere primitive directly converted to mesh
with no alteration), with and without the 'mesh2' option checked.

Is this an issue with the mesh2 format itself?

Imo, not with the mesh2 format. I have loaded mesh2 objects generated by
POV-Ray, or previously generated by Poseray, without any problem. I
guess this has to do with a Moray problem initially.

In view of the findings with a mesh2 export from Blender [see Clipka's

] it seems to me now that yours is the same case.
