Greetings,
I originally set off to create something nightmarish, disturbing... something
reflecting my mood, perhaps. But as I was working toward my questionable goal, I
realized that the thing I was making actually seemed... friendly. Even cute, in
a weird way.
The creature is composed primarily of spheres generated with a recursive macro
under generalized environmental influences (gravity, water flow).
The shading is based on that old fake SSS technique involving two object copies,
absorbing media and area_lights. The speckled pigment was controlled with a
fastProx2 proximity pattern and the diffuse term was given a little AOI (the AOI
actually broke the SSS effect somewhat, so I might switch to fresnel reflection
if I make another version)
He's still a bit freakish (probably the result a genetic experiment), but he
means well :)
~Sam

That was my (and my wife's) first impression, too. My wife would love to have
that one in our (non-existing) home aquarium :-)
I personally would prefer if those very humanoid eyeballs wouldn't be standing
free but were encapsulated somehow. I think that that would reduce the
"freakishness" to almost nothing...
Nice model, all in all.
Have a good sunday!
Greetings
Karl

It would certainly be less disappointing than growing Sea Monkeys ;)

Yeah, I agree. I'll be giving it a try if the power holds out...

it seems you pulled a Sam Benge out of your hat. oh wait! It's you indeed! :D
hey, don't you think it would look kinda cool in a miniaturized focal blur look?
come on, you're using fast fake SSS... :)

Obviously, your idea of "friendly looking" is very different than
mine... to not talk about "cute". :)
Great work, as usual!
