I've been tinkering with my greebles macro. It now supports a sliced
grill/vent/heatsync type effect, and different textures on the different
blocks.

I've got a few more improvements I want to do, like bevelled edges and
decoration (rivets etc). Once I've done that I'll share the new improved
source.

Any other suggestions?

I must say that I think too much grill stuff doesn't do it good.

Some cylindrical and spherical shapes, and some pipework, maybe?

ehm...
Someone sees your site... and feels very discouraged when he sees that it is not
updated, even though they are scattered here and there on the newsgroup some
great scenes/sketches.
:)

The amount of grills is represented as a probability of any given greeble
being "striped", so I can decrease that. I cranked it up a bit for this
render. I think there's too many overlapping shapes, but it has a kind of
nice Borg-cube chaos look as a result :)

That's exactly what I was thinking! :) I'll do that after the other tweaks.

You're not wrong. I'm currently thinking about overhauling my site, maybe
moving everything to flickr (so people could get an RSS feed of any new
images I upload, and to make things easier to maintain). My site's not
organised very well for people who want to see my latest work.

In all honesty, I find it just perfect.
I wish I could say: I have stuffed myself with evil_super_brain.

I love code-generated greebles!
Other improvements? Some little doors or cages and some labels.

This rocks. My kids have discovered Google Sketch-Up and are making
some really sweet spaceships (interiors and exteriors). One of them has
also played around with POV-Ray.

This macro could be very useful incorporated into the last POV-Ray
project I did, which was a while back...

http://www.flickr.com/photos/conceptjunkie/sets/72157604058844758/

The greebles on my spacestation are pretty simple, and not as detailed
as I would have liked, at least for close-ups.
