Loved the boss picture, so I just thought I'd point
out that a little post processing can make an image
look like a cartoon perty easy.
PSP:
copy, paste new,
edge effects | find all,
copy, paste as layer,
multiply setting, merge all
save as
Gimp:
copy, paste as new,
filter | edge detect | edge ... sobel,
layer | colors | desaturate
layer | colors | invert
copy, paste into
dialog | layers, mode: multiply, anchor
save as

Awesome! now if we could just bottle it and plug it into the
postprocessor of the renderer!

there is a find-edge postprocessing-effect in megapov, but the
postprocessing-system in megapov is awfully slow :(

Less easy with a complex image.... but cool effect. Makes me want to
mess around with cartoon rendering again.

That is a great technique, thanks for sharing. I've been playing around with
it, and I find that soft light gives better results than multiply in Paint
Shop Pro if there are a lot of black lines in the original picture. You can
even duplicate the Edge-detected layer and set the lower one to soft light
and the top layer to multiply, which gives some fairly amazing results,
IMO.
