Well, this is a first for me on a number of things:

First time I've ever done sparks, first time I've ever used media (the glow
effect) and the first time I've used reflection (on the bricks)

I'd greatly appreciate any feedback. Personally, I think the glow should
last a little longer, but by the time I realised that, I couldn't be
bothered to change all the time values... (especially since the high Q
version takes around 6 hours to render).

http://www.soware.co.uk/POVRay/POVStamp/POVStamp.avi (~ 1MB)
http://www.soware.co.uk/POVRay/POVStamp/POVStampHQ.avi (~ 6.5MB)

Hope you all like it. In particular, let me know what you think of my sparks

I love the concept. The sparks are ok, but nothing special, IMHO. I'm saying
this being painfully aware that I have absolutely no advice to offer on how
to improve them. :-( I agree the glow should last longer, it should
probably fade just in time before the brick leaves the screen.

Yeah fully agreed. The animation actually starts when the brick moves and
stops when the glow fades to 0. I#ll have to stop and think to get the
correct logic for the glowing.

I do need some advice on how to make the sparks better...

Thanks for the feedback :)

Hmm, take a look here: http://science.howstuffworks.com/iron3.htm and here:
http://www.zarquon.net/~drsulak/extremepumpkin/ep.html
According to those pics sparks tend to be more blobby and/or cylindrical (or
arcs of toruses). White in the middle when the spark is near the point of
impact and cooling down the further it travels.
That's about all the advice I can give, because I've never been able to make
media the way I wanted it to look. :-(

Thanks for that! that's a handy set of pics - and yeah, I'm the same - media
just doesn't like me :)
