I happened to mistype something in the command line box and it resulted
in an invalid page fault. It correctly reports in the message pane:-

"Possible Command Line Error: Could not open INI file 'clock'."

But it also then crashes with

"This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
If the problem persists, contact the program vendor."

"PVENGINE caused an invalid page fault in module PVENGINE.EXE at
018f:004516a4."

To reproduce the error, type any word that isn't the name of an ini file
either in the command line section of the tool bar or in the command
line options box in the "ini" pane.

I can't replicate this crash (I do get the command line error message, as
expected).

Anyone else see it ?

Nope. POV-Ray tells me:

Possible Command Line Error: Could not open INI file 'whatever'.

I tried several words or single words, the word clock too.

I wrote that message at
Date: Sun, 23 Sep 2001 21:25:51 +0100

And beta 4 was announced at
Date: Mon, 24 Sep 2001 05:36:10 +1000

Sorry, I didn't have access to a time machine.

I can now confirm that the problem is fixed in b4, thanks.

The X-Trace header disagrees. You should check your clock and/or your
time zone setting. The difference in the two dates on the post I'm
replying to here is even more interesting.

Again according to X-Trace, that announcement was seven hours before the
post in question. Not that I'd expect you to have upgraded by then, given
the release schedule for beta 3 and 4, but there was no time machine needed.

I claim that my "Date" headers are correct. Something really weird is
going on with the X-Headers that are added by povray.org.

I happen to use "NEWNEWS" to collect usenet messages from my local ISP
(which happens to be rather uncommon) the time and time zone on my
computer has to agree with that of my ISPs news server. My dialup script
includes commands to correct my clock every time I log on. I would
certainly know about it if this were not working.

The X-Trace and Date on that announcement are clearly inconsistent. My
guess would be that there's a problem with the X-Trace.

You don't need one:

 Your message = Sun, 23 Sep 2001 20:25:51
 Beta 4 announce = Sun, 23 Sep 2001 19:36:10

Read my other posts before replying. I don't mean
to insult or blame anyone, I intend to clarify this
header misunderstanding. There's nothing wrong in
missing the announce, not to mention not having the
time to download the beta. Ron agrees on that.

AFAIK, the X-Trace bears the date at which the message was
received, and the Date the date at which it was sent. Quite
a lot of time can sometimes elapse between the two.

Not quite. Announce was sent fifty minutes before Mike's first
post. But Mike's post took six hours before reaching the news
server, for reasons unknown.

Yes and no. Not that weird at least. Your date is correct?
If you say so. But that only means minutes and seconds will
definitely be correct. The hour can be corrupted by incorrect
timezones settings (it's not at all uncommon, I often receive
messages from one or two hours in the future).

> The X-Trace and Date on that announcement are clearly inconsistent. My

My guess is your messages somehow took a very long time to
reach the news server.

Beta 4 announce:
	Date	19:36:10
	X-Trace	19:36:17	7 seconds

Your first post
	Date	20:25:51
	X-Trace	02:27:05	6 hours 1 minute 6 seconds

Your second post
	Date	17:50:07
	X-Trace	18:34:34	44 minutes 27 seconds

Your third post
	Date	02:30:21
	X-Trace	06:35:13	4 hours 3 minutes 52 seconds

I have checked other posts, and all seem to reach the news
server seconds after they have been sent. Only yours show
this high latency. Even more, it is never constant, which
dismisses an incorrect-timezone-setting hypothesis. Did you
observe a delay in the appearance of your posts on the server?
Or do you use a modem connection and somehow the messages
were only sent the next time you turned your connection on?

OTOH, if they appear immediately, then this means there's a
(very strange) bug/incompatibility between your mailer and the
news server.
