Folks,
If you're interested in giving the Windows RC7 installer a sanity
check before I link to it on the beta download page, please feel free:
http://www.povray.org/beta/povwin-3.7.RC7-setup.exe
thanks,

The installer removed my RC6 first (after asking) and installed RC7 fine
on Windows7 64bit.
All seems fine.
Renders ok.

Same as Yvo, but I had to reboot to have my ini-Files back. I'm still rendering
the scene I posted yesterday to the p.b.i. with a bigger resolution. No problems
so far.
Best regards,
Michael

Installed it (and let it remove RC6) and found that it has a problem with files
containing spaces; checking the registry (this is Win7-SP1) shows a few
problems:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\pvengine64.exe - still points to RC6 unless it
should have been deleted at installation (or removal of RC6).
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\pov_auto_file - same as above.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\pov_auto_file - same as above.
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-861567501-1004336348-839522115-1216\Software\Classes\Applications\pvengine64.exe
- same as above.
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-861567501-1004336348-839522115-1216\Software\Classes\pov_auto_file
- same as above.
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-861567501-1004336348-839522115-1216_Classes\Applications\pvengine64.exe
- same as above.
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-861567501-1004336348-839522115-1216_Classes\pov_auto_file -
same as above.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\POV-Ray.Scene - in both the edit and open command keys, the
file wild card is not enclosed in double quotes ("%1") which is why it can't
handle file names with spaces.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\POV-Ray.Scene - same as above.
Other than that, it installed and worked fine.

Installed on XP SP3, no issues.
There wasn't a previous version of PovRay installed on this system.

Good find - thanks for pointing this out. I've fixed this and put
another version of the setup in the same location; please check to see
if it's OK for you now.
FWIW I also enhanced the code that handles the registry keys to save
and restore a little better.

I'm a bit unsure if I should remove associations automatically added
by windows. Yes, it would make sense to remove them, but up to now
I've tried to avoid having the uninstaller touch anything that the
installer didn't create.
I'll have a look at what Microsoft recommends (if anything) before I
make any further changes.

Installed the new version on another machine that had RC6. Everything seemed to
go okay and the space problem is resolved.

I had no way of knowing what the installer created and what Windows creates
after the fact, so I just listed everything that didn't look right. I don't mind
poking around in the registry, but 99% of it is totally foreign to me (make that
99.99%).

Thanks for all of your work on this over the years.

The installer works. (N.B. I could not test the RC6 uninstall, as there was no
RC6 on this computer, and I'm not about to fire up my old one.) However, it
didn't automatically run the sample scene, as past versions have done. Is this
deliberate?
When I unchecked Options|Render Window|Keep Above Main, it didn't take effect
until after I restarted POV-Ray.

Oops, forgot: Windows 7 64-bit.
