Hi everyone. Just wanted to post here that a final (well, you know)
rendition of the Tornado is on it's way and should be done approximately 14 hours
from now (taking 30 hours maybe).
In the meantime I have the first 49 frames put together into a Mpeg at:
 http://members.aol.com/persistenceofv/anims.htm
If you have seen this before it's looking much better I think, so thanks to a few
people
:-)
I'm only going to have it loop nice as possible instead of move around too much
and this one already looks pretty much like what the final result will except it's not
looping yet.
I tried what Rick [Kitty5] has said and viewed it full screen and it's not such a bad
way
to play animations I guess. Went from 240X180 expanded up to 1152X864 so I do
have to get away from the monitor.
Since on the subject of Mpeg animations, I noticed I had jerky frames when using
VideoMach 2 and very smooth animations made from Cmpeg. Anyone know about
that? I thought it could be a data rate thing or something but I haven't figured it
out;
I used Mpeg-1 standard and the other rates only hasten the animation.
VM2 has much less artifacting though.

Bob

Just wanted to say the tornado is finished, not perfect but completed, after
1d 4h 32m 35s on this PIII 500MHz machine, it's 119 frames at 240X180 res.
and 137KB Mpeg-1.
Hope it's satisfactory as is.

Looking at some of the other animations I was very interrested in the
"martian dust storm" rolling cloud effect. I was thinking of doing a rolling
cloud anaimation myself. And to do it using media. I guess what I'm trying
to say is how did you do it. watching the animation a few times looks as if
you have mutliple layer clouds animating?

Throw a dog a bone?

Good guess. There are 3 objects made up of blobs, each 1 blob with the
components strung along the x axis with a little randomness. Each of those
three lines of dust cloud are scaled and separated by a distance one behind
the other then all move forward almost together but at slightly varied rates.
The media in them is made of of several different kinds so there's enough
turbulence and heterogeneous look to it.
As many people know media can be a difficult thing to control how you want it.
This was no exception, especially when it moves and shifts around over the duration.

I thought maybe I had posted the pertinent part of one of those animations
at povray.text.scene-files but having looked there I don't see anything.
I'll just send the dust clouds via email to you since I might yet get
a better thing made and upload that later on (someday?).

Bob
