Last month - thanks to the great popularity of povray.org - I've counted
every day 30-100 Downloads from SMPOV.
And it continues so we are now safely over 3000 Downloads.
I am very happy that its not limited to a country or continent. However
without really counting,
I would say Asia (China !) and South Amerika have a little advantage about
Download numbers.
Thats a lot, if we accept that SMPOV is only intresting for people using
more then 1 CPU for rendering
and under some conditions with PIV Hyperthreading.
I got some mails, from SMPOV-Users one of them (Jim) told me he renders with
up to 15 CPU's.
He writes "Thanks again. SMPOV is a very useful piece of software.".
Thanks to you Jim for giving me good feedback.
I never had the chance to test the current SMPOV concept on more then 6
CPU's myself,
So I would like to know if there is anyone out there using SMPOV, and on how
many CPU's.
"Who is the ONE rendering with the most CPU's?" - Experiences?
Also other experiences about SMPOV are welcome.
I plan to use these knowledge for the next version of SMPOV.

Fine utility Theo!
Beginning to try SMPOV after checking around for this kind of network
rendering stuff. I hadn't been interested before since I only networked with
one other PC from my notebook by using a patch cable and so I never kept the
two connected except to transfer files. Now I have a wireless router and new
PC.
Too bad SMPOV is not rendering anything yet though. : (
Doesn't start POV-Ray, and it isn't set to "hide". I wonder if it isn't set
up correctly. I have read through your step-by-step at the web site, and the
readme file. Sure doesn't seem like I'm missing anything so it's frustrating
to know other people have no problem using it while I can't.
Pentium IV 3.0 GHz with HT enabled, Windows XP HE. I put the files into
C:\Network Rendering, where it shows as a Distro9 subfolder. I also used the
WinRobot to set POV as needed (just to be sure). I see that the batch files
are created, along with info, ini, txt files but nothing happens from there
onward. The progress bar is all the way across SMPOV's window. Dual Thread
Vertical and 640x480 chosen. Rendering Agent was set to use CPU 1 and CPU 2.
Maybe I'll discover the solution myself, not sure. Anyway, thanks for making
what might be a great thing. :-)

Hi Hugh,
really a fine utility if it doesn't work. :-) Sorry I was not in Newsgroup
for a while, so if anyone has trouble, its definitely faster to sent me a
private mail.
Did you solve your problems?
A new version of SMPOV is soon ready to come. The enhancements are:
- Possible resolution up to 12000x12000 Pixel. (for those who need it)
- Cleanup in the COM-Folder
- RenderAgent SpeedUp
- A bug preventing XEON Hyperthreading to be used was removed.
If anyone has trouble, please contact me at my private mailadress as well as
you can post here anytime. There are quite some SMPOV-Users out there maybe
someone can help.
thanks and happy new year for you all
