Hello, I'm looking for a nice solution to design realistic rocks. I use
POV-Ray as rendering engine and I got Moray and sPatch.
I know blobs/metaballs might be a solution but so far, the programs I found
like Blob Sculptor (dos & windows version) or Softy 3D don't look very
helpful neither ergonomic...
So if anyone have already bumped into the same problem, please let me know,
that would help me a lot !
Thank you ;-)
Eric
P.S. While I'm here, got another question ;-) Where can I get nice quality
sounds (looking for stuff like 'walking on the snow', 'waves on a beach',
etc.) for free of course ?

a few people have done asteroids and rocks littering a landscape using
isosurfaces. you might want to search past posts about that. very
realistic results by the way.

By walking on a beach in the winter, with a tape recorder? :)
Seriously, I encourage you to create as many of your own sounds as you
can. It is a very good educational exercise, and results in a richer
collection of sounds than simply using a typical sound effects
collection.

Like they did with Mission: Impossible 2,
in a scene where there's a crowd, you hear some chatters that
are EXACTLY THE SAME than in Roller Coaster Tycoon. I guess they
bought the same "100 sound effects" cd.

There is a "woman's scream" effect that is used in so many movies that it
shocks me every time I hear it in a new release. I think to myself, geez,
these audio guys really must not watch other movies. Anyway, if you've seen
"Wag the Dog" it's in there, on the faked recovered Albanian footage reel.

Same thing with pyrotechnics. I've seen the same explosions used in everything
from the X-Files to Battlefield Earth, to StarShip Troopers. Add in the last
two Star Trek movies too. One explosion in particular has been used widely in
the movie, tv and video games industries first appeared on an old game called
"Cyberia" or some such. Lends to a enhancement of disbelief.

There is a sound effect used in the background of some of the Starship
levels in Unreal, its sort of a electronics ticking away type sound, and
I've heard it in many different American television programs.
