Make sure under the language tab you have it set for POV-Ray.

This seems an unusual occurrence. If you are using the English Windows
anyway.
Like Ken said, check that the settings are alright. Have a file showing
(Untitled or other, from File/New or File/Open) and then go into Editor
menu then CodeMax Properties at end of menu.
Have a look at both Color/Font and the Language/Tabs tab. Make sure you
have a working font, if not go to Change in the Font part and choose a
good one there.
Also, it's possible you might be seeing the White Space in the files,
doesn't sound like it though. But just in case you can make sure by
going to Text on the menu and unchecking that if it's already checked
on.
If nothing fixes it then you might have a faulty download or something,
but might be best to ask more questions to get more answers first.
