I realize it is annoying keeping track fo different
compiles but the windows release insert|ready-made
scenes all have an assumed_gamma of 1.0. However for
Windows hardware 2.2 is much closer to what is
required.
Granted that is one of the first things one learns
as a beginner but why put it on the learning curve in
the first place?

Not sure at all but maybe the MacIntosh uses the same sort of thing as the
PCs Windows version does, I always thought so anyhow since sometimes there
are similarities in the two computers GUI. I have never seen any other kind
of computer in person besides those two.

This is correct, Bob. The original template was written by a POV-Ray
Mac user for the Mac GUI version. This may explain why the gamma setting
is '1.0'. Eduard Schwan (former POV-Ray Mac dude, as he referred to
himself) and I corrected some typos and other errors as we found them
and added a few items. I'm sorry I can't check for remaining ones at
this time as I use my own customized Insert Menu (modified).
I would post it except that it isn't really suitable for use by others
as it is set to my personal preferences on how I write scenes. Even my
area and area_spotlights have switches added in as a default to work
with my initial header and #declare statements.

Likewise any of the ones I have a personal interest in have been changed
to such a point they would likely confuse most people rather than help
them.
