In the spirit of Lewis' question about changing the output folder I have
my own, similar question, and there may not be a answer.
I'm annoyed with a File/Save as... defaulting to C:\Windows (I couldn't be
alone in this, right?). If a new file is started in the editor and then
the Save button clicked or File/Save as... chosen then the first place it
goes to is there and I have to navigate back out and into the C:\Program
Files\POV-Ray for Windows v3.1\Scene folder if I want to keep the file
there.
I tried changing a registry entry once which seemed the appropriate place
to change this (it was a path stating C:\Windows within the POV-Ray
hierarchy) however no go. Any ideas you smart Windows users?

Hmm, mine defaults to c:\Program...\PovRay...\bin\
Weird.

hmmmm. I'm using 3.1a and the save as default folder is the folder the file
I'm trying to save is in..
What ver are you using?

Oops. No Gail, I said "Untitled.pov" files were defaulting to C:\Windows
here. And not always either, sometimes it's elsewhere but I think that's
because of a recent Save of another file while I have the Untitled.pov
(new editor tab) showing.
3.1e and 3.1a both appear to have this affliction. It would be nice if
POV-Ray knew to save anything and everything you start in the editor at
it's own folder, ie. C:\Program Files\POV-Ray for Windows v3.1\scenes
The fact that this folder changes on rare occasions made me wonder if it
were possible to intercept the default. May be something for Chris Cason
to consider changing instead if at all possible.
And actually, to confirm what you have said, I think it's a Windows thing.
Since the folder appears to be the last one accessed. The SuperPatch goes
to it's own location (POV\bin\Super for example) upon trying to save a new
file, which is where the program resides. 3.1e official always wants to
use C:\Windows exclusively from what I can tell.
