Will 3.1 have any threading capabilities? I remember using the PVMPOV
modified povray a while back.... I used it to render complex scenes
across several dual processor UltraSparc machines... it made a massive
difference having that much horsepower to play with. It basically
divided the scene into smaller squares and doled them out to the other
PVM machines. I even used PVMPOV when rendering on a single machine, to
take advantage of the two processors.
I don't expect povray to have any sort of built-in distributed computing
component like PVM... but a commandline option to spawn X threads and
cut up the image to be evenly rendered by them would be really nice for
people with multiprocessor machines... By the time 3.1 is final I should
have a _really_ nice machine at work to do late night rendering on (Sun
E10K.... 16x 336Mhz UltraSparc...)
