Hi everybody!

I want to announce the publication the the first Beta version of
TreeDesigner!

Available at:

http://www.algonet.se/~jhubert/TreeDesigner

When finally realeased as a full version (not too far in the future)
TreeDesigner will be available as shareware. The current Beta version is

fully usable but time-limited until 2/28/98. Before it expires either a
new Beta or the full version will be published.

But what is TreeDesigner?

It is the result of me sitting in front of the Computer a lot <g>. No in

earnest:
TreeDesigner is a Windows application (up to now only tested with NT
4.0, SP 3, but probably it works with Win95 too, you will have to try).
It allows you to model trees, plants and other hierarchically
"tree-like" structured objects. It is a fully graphical application
using an OpenGL 3D view to achieve WYSIWYG.

The resulting model can be exported to POV-Ray. It exports "real"
POV-Ray primitives, no triangle-meshes or such. Only simple POV-Ray
primitives are used, so it will even work with older versions of
POV-Ray.
In addition to that, TreeDesigner can export Moray UDOs, making the
inclusion of TreeDesigner trees in Moray scenes very easy.

TreeDesigner is *not* "yet another" Modeller for POV-Ray. You can not
create full scenes in TreeDesigner. Instead it is dedicated to creating
sophisticated objects of one special type (trees/plants) to be included
in scenes that are modelled outside of TreeDesigner.
In contrast to the (sometimes amazingly good) Plug Ins for POV-Ray, that

allow you to create plants, TreeDesigner is not mainly meant to create
random plants from a given set of parameters (although this feature will

be in the release version too).
Instead is a full modeller that lets you modify the shape of the tree in

every aspect, while you see what you are doing in 3D!
Have you ever dreamed of modelling a windcrushed gnarly pine leaning
over a cliff - or a mighty oak spreading it's branches - or just some
shrubbery to popuplate a garden scene?
Well, I think you should give TreeDesigner a look! <g>

The TreeDesigner homepage also includes sample images (only a few yet,
since development has still priority above modelling <g>):

Greetings, Johannes.
