Yes. You can also write a phrase in oblique letters, though that'll
take a little more work. What's the difference? "Italic" is a style
of letters. Look at a Times-Roman lowercase 'i' and a Times-Italic
lowercase 'i' and you'll see that it's not a simple case of making the
Roman 'i' lean to the right (Microsoft didn't help the problem any
when they introduced the self-contradictory phrase "Times New Roman
Italic" to the language.)
So... How to use italics? Use the italic version of the font you're
working with. For Arial Italic, it's called ariali.ttf. For Times
Italic, use timesi.ttf. Courier Italic is couri.ttf. All of these
can be found in the 'fonts' directory of any Windows installation
since at least 3.1.
What if the font you're using (WingDings, say) doesn't have an italic
version? Then you'll have to get by with oblique - that's what you
get when you just lean all the characters to the right - and you'll
have to simulate that effect with a shear matrix. Look up 'matrix' in
the POV documentation.
