I'm sure it's been discussed before but I can't find any recent posts...is
there a way to block a glow, such as one behind  an object?

    I've been experimenting with a grid of smaller inverse glows but it is
not working as I had hoped.

You could use the trace() function to check for any objects between the 
glow and camera. This won't work in all cases, though...semitransparent 
objects, for example.
