Great, thanks to all who contributed!
Nathan, helpdocs05.zip contains the documentation for megapov04, html doc
is ok.
Thanks again

Thought I had better mention this so others might realize someone
else has had trouble in the downloading of the zip file (and other
files there).
Somehow IE won't see the download(s) and yet going through AOL
does okay. I couldn't even right-click on the links in IE5 and tell it
to Save Target as...
I mention this especially be cause it's a very rare occurance.

Well, whatever the glitch was AOL seems to have fixed IE5.
Try and figure that one!
I got the demos05.zip file through IE.

Is there a reason you haven't moved to the 3.1g GUI source? Just

umm... yea... I thought I did do that. Oh, yes, now I remember. I got
about 1/2 way through working on that and then got distracted by other bug

As well as general bug fixes, it solves some graphics glitches too (such as
blank button images on the toolbar, and "noise" lines periodically spaced
through the messages screen).... at least it did for me :P
Still, great work with the 0.5 - thanks:)

That's ok, I already compiled my own. I was just curious, thinking maybe
there was a problem I wasn't seeing.

The Linux version will be around shortly. I have it compiled, and I've
managed to render all of the MegaPov example files (both of which
required minor bits of hacking, but nothing too extensive. Nathan,
you'll be getting details shortly). I'm testing it on the 3.1 example
files for good measure, after which I will tidy up the packaging. I'll
probably test it with larger (and slower) images overnight before
posting it on my web site, probably tomorrow morning.

Subject: Comments on MegaPov 0.5 on Solaris 7 (Was: MegaPov 0.5)

I compiled it successfully in Solaris 7.
But a couple of things:
There are still some file names that have upper case letters in them.
You should convert them to lower case (since they are included in lower case).
It's ok to have a file name with upper case letters, but then you would
have to include it in the exact same way as well. Since all the includes
use lower case, the file names should use it too.
//-comments at lines 1409 and 1411 of lathe.c
What is oldmedia.c? It interfered my linking (it and media.c define the
same functions twice). I just removed it and it seems to work now.
The printing of "Sorting photons..." still outputs many newlines. It would
be nice if all of them went to the same line.
Has the photons interaction with media changed? I tried to render my
2-mirrors-and-lens scene, and there are no more reflected ray beams. It
worked with 0.4.
The scene is included at the end of the post.
Btw, I used the following makefile to compile the program. It assumes that
we are in the 'unix' directory under the 'source' directory. It only
works with gmake:

You have? Oooohh... this is exactly the same MegaPov 0.5, but with the 3.1g

If so, could you put it up for download? Plleeeaasseeee :)

Please turn on the switch ProgressOnOneLine in your config.h.
I added that switch because on the Mac we prefer not to have newlines.
Previously the switch was MACOS but we changed that for other platforms.
Post processing is also controlled by that switch!
Please see frame.h and look for ProgressOnOneLine. There is a bit of
comment there.
And... those // comments in lathe.c are (c) Smellenbergh :-( Sorry for
that.... and then you should know that we have the switch turned on to
warn Nathan obout those c++ comments he put in. This time we send
lathe.c to Nathan before we removed those comments.

I think it has to do with the version of comctl32.dll (the common
controls library, whatever it was called).

Are you saying that you have a windows version of MegaPOV 0.5 that
will output MPEG video directly? That would be great. Could it be
ported to DOS as well?
This might also help solve the problem with animation file names that
some other people were having when using the post_processing features.
I sure hope you make your patch available to everyone else.

Same here. Which is why I forgot to upgrade the GUI source. Anyways, I
upgraded it (new version not ready for download yet), but it didn't seem to
fix the line of line garbage graphics in the message window. Thoughts?

Oops. That file wasn't supposed to get out. ;-) Just delete it and all
will be well. (It was a backup copy when I was making some changes... and
yes I do use source control, but I wanted that backup copy for a different
reason.)

Yes, the code came from a DOS program, originally from a unix program, I
just smooshed it into MegaPov.

Hehe... I tried some post processing with mpeg output. It crashes horribly.
If I can figure out more out the PP code, I might be able to fix it. Maybe.

I'm thinking about. I posted a note in p.a and got mostly negative feedback.
If enough people want it I'll eventually put it up somewhere.

My compile has no message window garbage, um, "Rebuild All"? That's all I
got.

Not that I'm aware of. I just checked it. If you have problems, go
straight to ftp.povray.org.

Oh yes, of course, seems you or someone else had already said that before.

| My compile has no message window garbage
Likewise here. Just the Blue Rock bitmap is still wrong somehow, which has
nothing to do with it I guess since it appears to be a graphic added into the
source files(?) along with the black marble one too.
I used the Gray_roc.bmp and shifted it's color to blue for a replacement of
that.

Btw, you made an excellent job here. Taking the average of ambiguous
interiors is just a clever idea.
It's the perfect answer to many requests.

Does this refer to the "plateau" effect? That would be good news.

It does, but watch out, because it can cause scenes, especially ones using
media with patterned density, to act differently than they used to.

My best regards for 0.5!
I found that next three lines 2345, 2346 and 2347
are unnecessary in file parse.c
In case that I miss the numbers:
In function --Parse_Disc-- and enclosed in --#else-- and --#endif--
/* Calculate info needed for ray-disc intersections */
VDot(Object->d, Object->center, Object->normal);
Object->d = -Object->d;
And why:
in --Compute_Disc-- we have --Transform_Disc--
--Transform_Disc-- recalculate d.
Little feature request:
disc{ <1,2,3>,<4,5,6> } to be same as disc{ <1,2,3>,<4,5,6>, 1 }
Default radius is 1.0
I was try to made it, but...

Are you sure you wouldn't prefer a default radius of 0.5? That would
provide a "unit disc", with a *diameter* of 1. That seems more useful
to me.
